Day 01: Drive from Xining to Rebkong (Chi: Tong Ren Xian)
You will stop at Shachong monastery on the way. This is one of the six great monasteries of Tibet, This is also the mother monastery of the Gelugpa Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism where the founder of the Gelugpa received his monk ordination age of six. This special monastery is located on the top Amnye Shachong Holy Mountain. Where you can get a great panoramic view of the Yellow River valley. There is a great two hour hike around the monastery. Please consult with your guide the length of the kora and how hard it is. Meet with your driver, drive to Rebkong. Rebkong is home to 35 Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and is famous across Tibet for its unique art traditions. Over night in Rebkong.
Day 02: Visit Sang Ge Shong monasteries (Chi: Wu Tun Si)
Visit Sang Ge Shong monasteries (Chi: Wu Tun Si) Where you will get chance to see some of the most well-known local thangka painters, they will show you all their works and offer you tea at their cozy court yard. After visiting these great places, then visit Gomar Stupa, the largest stupa in the region. Return to your hotel in the evening. Over night at the same hotel.
Day 03: Travel to Labrang via Ganja or Dowa
This day you will travel through out some large nomadic regions where nomads live in their tents on their summer pastures. You will get to try Dril (female yak) yogurt in Gertse town. You will arrive in Labrang in the early evening. Over night in Labrang.
Day 04: Day in Labrang
Labrang is one of the Amdo’s most famous monasteries located in the small town of Sangchu Zong (Chi: Xia He Xian). Labrang sits at 2900m/9500 feet with high mountains and alpine forests surrounding it. Labrang is a popular pilgrimage destination for Tibetans and is home to over 2200 monks.
This is also one of the six great Yellow Sect (Gelukpa Tradition of Tibetan Buddshim) monasteries of Tibet. After visiting all the temples, then you will explore the town on your own. After lunch drive to Taktsang Lhamu (Chi: Langmusi). Taktsang Lhamu is a great place to do a short horse trek as well as explore Tibetan nomadic life.
Day 05: Drive to Machu County (Chi: Ma Qu Xian)
Arrive in Machu in the evening. Over night in Machu.
Day 06: Drive Machu to Sogzong (Chi: He Nan Xian)
This is a Mongolian populated county in Qinghai, you will see some untouched rolling grasslands along the way. Over night in Sogzong.
Day 07: Drive to Xining via Gomang and Trika county (Chi: Gui de Xian)
