Amnye Machin Full Kora


 

Amnye Machin Full KoraDay 01:

Xining-Kokonor Lake-Chabcha, 210km, 4 HRS.

Meet your guide and driver at your hotel in Xining. Drive to Shala Pass where you
see nomads pasturing their animals on the grassland, with a marvelous
panoramic view of grand Lake Kokonor (Chin: Qing Hai Hu) meets the crystal
clear sky. Continue driving another 2 hours to Chabcha. Stay over night in
Chabcha.

 

Day 02:

Chabcha-Trazong Monastery- Tawu Zhulma. 420km, 7 HRS.

After breakfast, we will drive about 3 hours from Chabcha to Trazong Monastery,
a hidden gem meaning “the white cliff of monkeys”. Today’s drive is enriched
with some of the most interesting nomad-inhabited areas of north-eastern Tibet.
We will take plenty of breaks to soak in the wilderness, meet local nomads, get to
know about nomadic culture and lifestyle, and enjoy the stunning views. We will
arrive in Tawu Zhulma in the early evening to camp overnight.

Day 03:

Rrekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 3900mt,1,1700ft.

Trek from Tawu Zhulma to Jiashinongke (Average altitude: 4,200 m), we
commence our pilgrimage around the holy Amnye Machen mountain. We will
cover a total distance of about 15 km (6-7 hours) to Jiashinongke. We will pass
Tibetan Mani Walls carved with sutras (Mani Stones). Camp here overnight.

Day 04:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 4100mt,1,2300ft.

Today, we will trek about 18 km (6-7 hours) to Chablong. Walking through a wild
valley, we will begin to see the first views of the snow-capped mountains
belonging to the Machen Kangri range. Following a full day of walking through
the remote and breathtaking landscape, we will eventually reach Drakdi Lhatse
Chogon, located at 4,328 m. Camp overnight.

Day 05:

Trekking 4-5HRS, average altitude 3700mt,1,1100ft.

Today, we will cover approximately 22 km on a 4-5 hour trek to Halong-Chu
Valley. Though today’s trek may be challenging, it is worth the fabulous
landscape you will encounter. We will pass Drakdi pass (4,700 m), where we will
stop to see the Rikhar Tongshang Glacier and the three ice-covered peaks of
Amnye Machen. Then we will descend into Yongri Valley, enjoying a trek along
this valley for the next couple of days. For those interested in botany, the next
several days offers incredible opportunities to explore alpine meadows full of
spectacular and rare plant species, including primula, cyprepedium, and
pedicularis, to name just a few. Clear days offer stunning views of the
surrounding valleys and mountains. Camp overnight.

Day 06:

Trekking 5-6HRS, average altitude 3900mt,1,1700ft.

Today, we descend through the Halong-Chu Valley to the Tibetan town of
Chorten Karpo (White Pogoda) at Chuwarna. The rest of the trail passes through
a deep and narrow gorge to Kisar Sangkhang, where we camp overnight.

Day 07:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 3700mt,1,1100ft.

Today, we ascend very slowly, reaching our camp site of Kumo within 6-7 hours.
As we enter the Halong Yungri-chu valley, the trail takes us along the Yungchu
river. We will see some nomads’ camps along the way and will have many
opportunities to explore the diverse grassland flora and bird species. Camp
overnight at Kumo.

Day 08:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 4700mt,1,4100ft.

While having breakfast, our crew will busy themselves packing up our gear and
getting ready to set off for the day. Our local Tibetan guide will lead us up and
across the Tamchok Gongkha La Pass (4,800 m). This is the highest pass of this
trek. At this summit the tremendous view of the surrounding mountain range
includes a full view of the holy Mt. Amnye Machen. Our trail from this summit
descends gently over the meadows along the river banks, allowing frequent
views of the sacred mountains. As soon as we leave the meadows, we start to
descend further to Mowatowa, a valley of unusual rock formations. Here we will
come across several ancient meditation caves, including the retreat of the great
Nyingmapa master Zhabkar Tsokdruk Ringdrol. Finally, we will arrive on the plains
of Nganggi Shogdeb to camp overnight.

Day 09:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 3900mt,1,1700ft.

Throughout the day we will pass through amazing rocky mountain and cliff
formations. We will also explore meditation caves in Deleni and the cliffs of Goku
Chenmo. Near the cliffs there are 2 towering rocks, Mopa and Towa, considered
to be sites of ‘torma’ offerings to the gods. This marks the entrance to the
“Heavenly Palace” of the protector Machen Pomra. Camp overnight.

Day 10:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 3900mt,1,1700ft.

We will trek along Qushian River for about 6 hours through an imposing and
beautiful gorge. We will cover approximately 14 km to Jomolangra, where we
will end our trekking for the day. On our trail, we will visit the auspicious Dolma
Gur-Chu spring. Our path will also lead us to a point where the legendary king
Ling Gesar was said to tie his horse. On our trek today, we will arrive at a
mountain pass, where we will see striking views of all the main peaks of the
sacred Amnye Machen mountain range. Our trail will also lead us to a wide
valley covered in gentle slopes and meadows full of wildflowers in bloom. In the
late afternoon, we will arrive at Tawu Zhulma, completing our pilgrimage to the
holy Amnye Machen mountain range. Here our driver will be waiting to pick us
up, and we will bid our nomad crew farewell. In the evening we will celebrate
the completion of our incredible trek with a few cold beers at the camp. Camp
overnight.

Day 11:

Tawu Zhulma-Xining, 430km, 7HRS.

After breakfast, we start our return drive to Xining. Upon arrival, we will check into
your hotel. Tour ends.

Amnye Machin Half Kora


Amnye Machin Half KoraDay 01:

Xining-Rabgya Monastery- Machen, 480km, 7HRS.

Driver and guide will meet at your current location. Drive to Machen throughout
some large rolling grasslands and rugged mountains. You will stop to see Rabgya
monastery, one of the most important monasteries in the region. It is located right
by the Yellow River. After visiting this monastery, drive up to a pass where you
can get a great panoramic view of the Monastery and the entire Yellow River
Valley. Arrive in Machen in the early evening. Stay at Nyi Oh hotel or similar
standard.

Day 02:

Machen-Tsemnak Khamdu, 70km, 2 HRS.

Morning drive to Karkhang Chenmo, which is only a walking distance away from
your hotel. Stop to see this important site, where you can see many local Mani
stone carvers (Buddhist Mantras carved on stones), and the pilgrims from many
parts of Golok region. Drive another 2 hours to Tsemanak Khamdu, where you will
meet with your local nomad crews. Camp at Tsemnak Khamdu. You will take
some short hike near by areas for acclimatization. Our guide and nomads will set
your tents and prepare your first meal during the trek.

Day 03:

Trekking 5-6HRS, average altitude 3700mt,1,1100ft.

Trek 8 hours to entrance to the Halong Langri-chu valley and we will trek along
the Halong Chu river. You will see some nomad residences along the way. You
will trek slowly for this day. You arrive at Kumo in the early afternoon. Camp at
Kumo.

Day 04:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 4700mt,1,4100ft.

We will leave after breakfast, your local assistants will collect your tents. You will
trek with your guide. Today you will trek up to Tamchok Gongkha La Pass (4,800
m), the highest pass on this trek. Then trek on and camp. Arrive at the pass
slightly in the afternoon. Trek over meadows, along the river side with frequent
views of the sacred mountain. As soon as you leave the meadows, you will start
to descend on the water side to a valley of interesting rock formations, the
middle of the valley of Mowatowa. Here there are several meditation caves
including the Retreat of the Great Nyngmapa master Zhabkar Tsokdruk Ringdrol.
You then descend to the plains of Nganggi Shogdeb for camp over night.

Day 05:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 3900mt,1,1700ft.

Trek 8 hours, visit meditation caves, to Deleni, and the cliffs of Goku Chenmo,
Near the cliffs there are 2 rock towers Mopa and Towa, offering ‘torma’ to the
god. This marks the entrance to the “palace” of the protector Machen Pomra.
Camp over night.

Day 06:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 3900mt,1,1700ft.

Trekking for 14 km (6 hours) to Jomolangra, you’ll follow the gorge of the Qushian
River. Visit Dolma Gur-Chu Spring, the trail following its course. The path leads to
a spur where king of Ling Gesar was said to tie his horse when resting at the pass.
The view at the back offers an impressive panorama of the main peaks of the
sacred mountain, the other side leading to a wide valley where there are gentle
slopes and the meadows are green and full of wild flowers. End your trek at
Tawu Zhulma.

Day 07:

Tawu Zhulma-Xining, 430km, 7HRS.
After breakfast, we start our return drive to Xining. Upon arrival, we will check into
your hotel. Tour ends.

Weido – Shigon Trek


 

Weido Shigon TrekDay 01:

Xining-Xun Hua- Chuja, 170km, 4 HRS

 

Meet the driver and guide at your hotel. Drive to Chuja Village, optionally you
can visit 10th Panchen lama’s birth place before you reach the starting point of
the trek. Meet with your trekking crew. You will arrive at Chuja in the afternoon.
Your most friendly homestay host will meet you at his house. He will divide the
group and arrange them to stay with a few different local families. You will have
time to explore this lovely village. Dinner can be taken with your individual
families or all together as a group.

Day 02:

Trekking 5-6HRS, average altitude 3100mt, 9300ft.

Start the trek from Rebshong about 10am. This day you will trek to Wendu
Gonchen monastery, a Gelekpa institute hidden in mountains. Visit the
monastery, and then trek another about 4 km to Takdor. Camp over night.

Day 03:

Trekking 5-6HRS, average altitude 3300mt, 9900ft.

After breakfast we start to trek at 9 am. You will trek mostly throughout some
isolated farming villages and cross Nitso Pass (2800m.), one of the local sacred
mountains. We’ll have lunch on the pass with a view of the whole valley. After
lunch trek about 6 km (4hours) to Karang village. Camp near the Karang
monastery, overseeing the whole Karang valley dotted by 8 Tibetan villages.

Day 04:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 3300mt, 9900ft.

After breakfast you’ll visit Longyangthang Monastery (This is one of the most
isolated monastery where the great Lhaku Lama was born, later he became one
of the teachers of 14th Dalai Lama and 10th Panchen Lama, and regarded as
one of the greatest Tibetan Buddhist teachers of the last century), and
Tharwaling Nunnery. Continually trek to Wecha grasslands. This is an open
grassland where numerous Tibetan nomads in their summer tents, you can freely
visit their tents, experience the nomadic life, taste their delicious yogurt, Dril
(female yak) milk, and go on for a horse riding etc. Camp at Wecha grassland
for the night.

Day 05:

Trekking 4-5HRS, average altitude 3000mt, 9000ft.

After breakfast, trek to Shigon Monastery. This day you will mostly trek through
some remote area and cross Konggan Thang Pass (3200m.) you will be in Shigon
Monastery around 5 pm. We’ll walk up to Shigong retreat cave, which is quite a
tough walk (ask your guide and judge for yourself if you are up to the climb). Trek
to the main road, where you can meet with your driver. Drive to Xining. Tour
ends.

Erthi Village Trek


Erthi Village TrekDay 01:

Xining-Chabcha-Erthi Village. 170km, 3 HRS.

Meet with your guide and driver at your hotel. Drive to Chabcha ( Chi: Gong He) via Nyisar Gongkar La Pass(Chi: La Ji Shan). You will arrive in Chabcha at noon.
Lunch in Chabcha, visit Gonpa Soma Monastery which is located north of the
town. After visiting this monastery, drive another hour to Erthi village. This is a
normal Tibetan farming village with more then 160 families. You will camp or stay
at a local home for the night.

Day 02:

Trekking 5-6HRS, average altitude 2900mt, 8700ft.
Your local trekking crew will arrange their donkeys and mules to carry your food
and camping gear. After breakfast, you will start your first day of trekking. The first
couple hours, you will mostly trek throughout the village and other neighboring
villages. Then you will start to enter into the mountains. This is the summer pasture
for the local Tibetans, you will see people living in tents and pasturing their
animals. Enjoy your packed lunch at Changlong, and continue trekking another
2 hours to our camping sites. Camp for the night.

Day 03:

Trekking 6-7HRS, average altitude 3100mt, 9300ft.

Your crew will make your breakfasts, pack the camping equipment, and we start
the second day of trekking. This day you will go relatively high from (3000m.) to
(3400m.). Most of the day, you will trek throughout some amazing grasslands.
You will have your packed lunch at Tsomar. Then trek another 2-3 hours to your
last destination. Camp here for the night.

Day 04:

Kokonor Lake-Xining, 170km, 3 HRS.

Enjoy your last meal on the grassland, then the local crew will return home and
your driver will pick you up from the campsite, and drive to Xining via Lake
Kokonor. Arrive in Xining in late after noon. Tour ends.

Shima Lhadun Desert Trek


Shima-Lhadun-trek-1This trek is perfectly suited for those who do not have much time in Qinghai and
wants to experiences different type of tour. It allows you to stretch and sweat for
two days on a different landscape consisting of sand, lake and grassland. You
will get back to Xining in the early evening, and hop on your train to Lhasa or
other parts in China.

Day 01:

Xininig-Shima Lhadun, 150km, 3HRS
Drive from Xining to the east site of the Qinghai Lake. Arrive at Dongsang Warma
at noon. Your crew will set up the tents and prepare your dinner. Camp in the
desert for the night.

Day 02:

Trekking 4-5HRS, average altitude 3100mt, 9300ft.

You will have your breakfast at the camp site, then your guide will lead you to
Nakchen, a 3-hour slow trek through the desert, You will have your packed lunch
at Nakchen where trees emerged because of the locals’ efforts. After lunch
continue trek 4 hours to Rina, where your will have dinner and camp for the
second night.

Day 03:

Trekking 5-6HRS, average altitude 3100mt, 9300ft.

Trek to the lake, this day you will trek on grassland instead of desert. This is 2-hour
trekking, you might see some wild birds such as black-white neck cranes, swans
and other birds, or catch a glimpse of wild animals along the way, then meet
your driver and drive back to Xining.
