Latest News Concerning Access to Tibetan Areas

  • August 8th Labrang (Xiahe) has closed to foreign tourists. Not sure for how long this time.
  • July 22 Tibet has re-opened!
  • June15th The Tibet Autonomous region is closed. Most of our sources say until the end of July.
  • March 26th Tibet will reopen to tourism starting April 1st.
  • March 2011 The T.A.R will not be issuing permits for the month of March.
  • September October holiday is coming so make sure to make any Lhasa arrangements 10 days before October 1st. The permit offices will be closed during the holiday. The permit office will be closed from September 23 until October 7th.
  • April 14th At 7:49 am today there was 7.1 earthquake outside of Yushu. The town of Yushu is reporting fatalities. Our employees have called down and people they know have died or are trapped.
  • April 7th Labrang (Xiahe) are closed to foreign travellors I am not sure when it will open again.
  • March 26th Lhasa is open again!
  • March 23rd It looks like Lhasa will be starting permits again on the 29th! It is not for sure but that is the word from various sources.
  • March 8th Tibet has closed for the month of March the best prediction for re-opening is April 1st. As of now Tibetan areas of Qinghai, Gansu, and Sichuan are still open.
  • January 12th The Tibet Tourism Bureau will be closed for Chinese New Year from February 11th to February 25th. Make sure if you want to travel within this time, to get your permits before.
  • October 8th Lhasa is now making permits.
  • September 21st Lhasa has stopped making Tibet Travel permits. This is for the duration of the October holiday and should re-open on October 8th.
